Pretty as a Peacock

I want a peacock

One roams the grounds at a park near my house. He's pretty intimidating when he screeches out his mating call

My uncle's neighbor has a female peacock nesting on his roof. (Or peahen rather?) Despite her lack of feather's she's really beautiful. He named her Edna. And I just found out a few months ago that white peacocks exist...

Happy (Belated) National Donut Day!

Yeah, I'm a bit of a sucker for outlandish food holidays. I celebrate National Pie Day (January 23rd) and Pi Day (March 14th, duh) with strict reverence- I'll admit that I have a fetish for baked goods. But I slipped up slightly and missed this one, which is apparently June 4th. Still I think I made up for it this morning when I ate an apple fritter the size of my head. No joke. Donuts are actually one of my favorite baked goods: they taste AMAZING and manage to easily traverse the boundary between 'breakfast' and 'dessert'. I'm all about apple fritters, bear claws, powdered jellies & buttermilk bars. In fact, I think I might have to go eat another one right now...

RIP Rainbow Donuts-undoubtedly the best donut place that has ever existed. Unfortunately, McDonald's bought the building and turned it into a parking lot

'Donut' or 'Doughnut'? I've always preferred the former personally. Serious Eats discusses the difference and breaks down some other terminology here (http://www.seriouseats.com/2007/05/the-serious-eats-doughnut-glos.html)

Quirk Trip

Just a few pictures I love for some good, kitschy quirkspiration...

Googly eyes make anything magical

Any girl that wants to look like an ice cream cone is pretty nifty in my book

Snail vase. Dali. Enough said

Chocolate Maraschino Cherry Pie. Nothing spells out quirky romance like a diner. I feel weak in the knees

Clare Crespo= My Idol

If I could live anywhere I'd pick Coeur d'Coeurs

Bettie Page, the Pin-Up Queen of Quirk

Gnomes! And more pie...!

The universe would be incomplete without Jell-O...

I waste hours on Supermarket Sarah's website

Plot-wise Marie Antoinette is a terrible movie, but it's got incredible best visuals & soundtrack. It's the kind of movie I want to live inside & I really love the way Sofia Coppola blended the 18th century with 80s New Wave

Rainbow Volcano Cake... I made one of these to celebrate by 21st...

Even though I still need to finish the second season, Twin Peaks is the ultimate quirk trip. Lynch's fixation on the dark side of American normalcy succeeds through his fetishization of 50s Americana. Its simultaneously appealing and revolting. But, man I want some of that damn fine coffee & pie

Check these out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3IZS2QddAY AND http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PcoMrwEa5o

I love all of Pes' films. He's kind of like the illicit love child of Jan Svankmajer and Michel Gondry. Westerm Spaghetti is one of my favorites: http://eatpes.com/western_spaghetti.html

In the Summertime: 21 Resolutions

In light of the upcoming summer solstice (OK, I know I'm like a month in advance, but...) I thought up 21 things I want to habitually accomplish over the course of the summer. Most of the items on the list are pretty simple, which hopefully means I'll stick to it (maybe ?) And I figured that I'd kick start the list because the longer I wait, the less likely I am to actually complete anything on there. Plus, I think summer officially starts the second I feel an OUNCE of humidity in the air

1. Take a sewing class
2. Ride my bike
3. Walk
4. Make some $$$
5. Roast some marshmallows (& perhaps a bit of camping)

6. Read (A Natural History of the Senses, My Year of Meats, The Royal Road to Romance, V. Woolf essays & short stories, among other things)
7. Write
8. Picnics & BBQs
10. Frequent neighborhood farmers' markets

11. Stock up on Polaroids
12. Nature hikes
13. FINALLY finish Twin Peaks (I've seen season one and bits of season two)
14. Bake (this also includes Jellies & Popsicles)
-Work out baking club...
15. Set up my fashion theory independent study

16. Practice driving (I HATE it)
17. See the beach? (it's been ages)
18. Play some croquet
19. Visit my friend in Seattle if I can find the time & the money
20. Catch up on movies I've missed in the past couple months
21. Enjoy some contraband fireworks
